CHALLENGE

With the School District’s firm plans to open the school in Fall 2025, the schedule for this project has been tight, which has required more attentive planning on Cascade’s behalf.

As well, the architects have incorporated some unique design features into the front façade of the building, which challenged the Cascade crew to ensure that their precision work highlighted and meshed well with the artistic intent of the design.

SOLUTION

To answer the pressures on the timeline of this project, Cascade undertook to pre-map the entire wall assembly and order all of the necessary materials in advance. The job called for an insulated wall system with aluminum composite panels and Hardie® panels, as well as aluminum Longboard® soffits.

According to Cascade’s Project Manager, a colourful panel selection and a weathered steel metal wall were incorporated into the design to produce a stunning look. “Those creative walls really get highlighted when the finished product gets installed,” he explained. “We can’t wait to see this building completed.”

On previous projects, Cascade has partnered closely with Station One Architects and with DGS Construction, so the crews were confident of their collaborative efforts on this project.

“Having a good relationship with the builders and knowing the look and quality that the architect intends has helped us keep the project run smoothly,” said Cascade’s Project Manager. “We like working with these companies, and we’re good at adapting to the new and innovative designs.”

OUTCOME

Though the school project was not yet completed at the time of writing (Spring 2025), there was great optimism among the builders, architects, and the Cascade team that the work was moving forward on schedule.

According to Chris Wenzoski, Superintendent with DGS Construction, Cascade has already contributed to the success of the school project. “Cascade has been extremely easy to work with on site,” he said. “They coordinate effectively and solve issues quickly. All the cladding installations have looked clean and very professional, and their crews are very organized.”

Quintin Van Dyk, AIBC, of Station One Architects, shared a similar perspective:

“I was on-site last Thursday and was amazed at how quickly the building is coming together. The way some of the panels catch the light and create shifting visual effects throughout the day is truly impressive. Cascade has done an exceptional job in keeping us on schedule while maintaining the high standards of quality and precision that the design team envisioned. The finished building will not only stand as a landmark in the community but will also provide an inspiring space for learners to explore their passions and strive for greater opportunities.”
